Welcome
Broad & South
Community Arts Garden
A website for urban community gardeners and friends
The Broad and South Community Arts Garden is comprised of a group of local garden enthusiasts. The garden is conveniently located along the border of Center City Philadelphia and South Philadelphia. It currently consists of 40 plots, 10′ by 10′ each. The local gardeners grow a variety of perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables. At first blush, one would think it an odd location. However, after tasting the delicious vegetables, one would agree that there is nothing as delicious as the “South Street Salad”. The garden is currently in its fifth season. The property also hosts a large communal area. It includes rose beds, a sunflower field, a Japanese tea house, a pumpkin patch (with other vines), several flower gardens, and a dog run. The purpose of this website is to keep our gardeners informed of the day to day events in the garden. Please feel welcome to browse this site and to visit us when you are in town.
Save Our Garden!
We are entering into the next phase of preserving part of the garden as a public park, and it involves YOU again. Please take a moment to write a letter in support of this project and send it to our councilman, Frank Dicicco. Please send your letter to DiCicco at the following address:

Reminders:
- Vote on the New garden Ideas
- Don’t forget the “Adopt a Project” program. The projects need to be tended all summer.
- Don’t forget to check your watering schedule for your turn. The information may also be available on the website’s calendar.
- Check out the link below for Garden Guide Vegetable Companion. It contains information on what should and should not be planted next to each other.
- Trash bags - Please don’t make the bags too heavy as they break when moving them to the sidewalk. Also, please close the bags so they don’t fill with water when it rains.
